THE AUDACITY
By Blair Nesbitt
A surrealist horror dark comedy short film that explores feminine rage and the culture of unspoken violations
CONCEPT
Jess, your everyday kind hearted girl next door, and a local artist in town who works from home decides to get out of the confines of her room and work at her local favorite café. While trying to focus on work we see Jess’s boundaries increasingly crossed, resulting in her losing her grip on reality through violent fantasies. When a final blow is delivered to Jess’s psyche she experiences her most violent fantasy yet… as she comes to a final shocking realization.
During a girls night with my best friends we discussed weird (gross) messages we get, predominately from men. I mentioned “they would never have the audacity to say this to our face.” Then, a week later while getting a drink with a friend I thought… But what if they did? What would that look like? How violating would it feel face to face? And thus, The Audacity was born.
